Logo Trends in 2019

We’re rounding the corner on Q1 of 2019 and still seeing some of the same logo trends as last year: light, neutral colors; two-dimensional iconography; and the perpetuation of the hipster aesthetic. While there isn’t anything inherently wrong with these trends, there is something wrong with nearly every business adopting the same look and feel for their logo. Now, more than ever before, it is imperative that your business logo stands apart from all the rest. (For a quick refresher on logo design, check out our post about logo design basics.)

Light and Neutral

Neutral colors are by definition inoffensive; they appeal to the widest audience and impart a calming, serene vibe to a logo. They’re a great choice for businesses that naturally embody this feeling (such as day spas), or a business looking to differentiate itself in an industry that is normally seen as chaotic (such as a white-glove event planning company). What we’ve seen lately, though, is a propensity for pastel in logos—even when the palette doesn’t actually connect with the brand. Because of this trend, using more saturated colors is a quick way to make your logo stand out.

Homogeneous

Another trend we’re seeing in logo design is the use of flat, 2D graphics. This lack of dimension makes logos today less visually interesting. Rather than varying the line or stroke widths, every element of logos today tends to be homogeneous. When all the elements of a design carry the same visual weight, the result is a lack of movement. There’s even a term coined for this new, flat aesthetic: airspace.

“Hipster”

Airspace is one way to describe what others refer to as the “hipster aesthetic,” the dominant trend for the past few years. More and more logos are adopting this trendy look, perhaps as a side-effect of constant exposure to minimalist designs in our Instagram feeds. Or maybe it’s the result of other trends playing out in our culture today. Either way, there is a definite wave of sameness that just about every brand (new and old) is riding.

At Diace Designs, we prefer to disregard the current trends in favor of designing highly-custom logos that play off the distinct qualities of your business. Our branding process includes market research, strategic planning, and a ton of brainstorming and ideation. If you’re looking to buck the trends and develop a true brand identity for your business, send us a message. We’d love to help!
