How many of you have head about “Like Ladders”? I’m sure most of you have and most have not. From a Social Media aspect and someone in the business, I’ve seen way to many people taking the short cut and using “Like Ladders” instead of putting in the efforts like the rest of us do to build a QUALITY fan base.
The most recent incident that defeats the whole purpose of Social Media, was the Social Madness contest. There were a number of participants who joined “Like Ladders” and basically cheated their way through the contest… doesn’t sound fair does it?
If you see a significant jump in the number of fans a page has from one day to the next, they most likely joined a “Like Ladder”. If you see someone jump up 50 fans in 1-2 days, but have normally gained 1-2 fans a week… you know they joined a “Like Ladder”.
What is a “Like Ladder”?
“Like Ladders” are just like fan pages, you like their page, BUT you’re required to go up and down their post and like all the fan pages on their post and in return…they will do the same – some do and some don’t.
Why this does nothing for your brand!!!
Yes, your increasing the number of fans you have on your page, but they are empty LIKES, they will not return to your page, the odds of them returning and becoming a client/customer are slim to none.
Q: Why build a fan base that will not turn into a potential client/customer, how will this benefit your brand?
A: It won’t!
The best way to build your fan base is to target those who actually like your business, who would utilize your business, a lead or someone you have spoken to but is not ready to make a transaction just yet, someone who has worked with you before, and/or someone who has ordered your product before etc., these are the fans you want.
In the end, a quality fan base can be built/established when done correctly, you will build their trust, and earn their business or benefit from referrals.
Social Media should not be played as a cheating game, or who can get the most likes; each brand has it’s own niche and should target their target audience on their pages vs. worrying about how many fans they have to boost their ranks.
Boosting your rank is only beneficial when you have quality fans.
