Design Inspiration: How to Inspire Creativity
It happens to all of us: you’re in the flow, creating and ideating, and then… you hit a plateau and succumb to total designers-block. Even creative professionals need to jump-start their creativity every once in a while! This post is a quick how-to that covers some of our favorite ways to re-ignite the creative spark.
Follow
Without leaving your computer, you have access to countless websites, templates, portfolios, and stock photos to inspire you. Seek out your favorite designers, and follow their accounts to add inspiration to your social media feeds. Follow or bookmark your favorite artists and collections on Behance, and explore the Behance curated galleries to find ideas organized by creative industry. At Diace Designs, you’ll find us regularly exploring templates on Envato and stock photos on iStock for even more ideas and inspiration.
Travel
We love to travel, and we do it often. One of the main benefits of jet setting around the world is the seemingly endless sources of inspiration you can find when meeting new people, places, and cultures. When you travel, visit local museums and art galleries. Pay attention to the architecture and street art all around you. Creativity abounds in culture-rich countries like Cuba, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, but you can find inspiration just about anywhere! Even airports, like the absolutely stunning Changi airport in Singapore, can impart new ideas and perspectives.
Be Observant
The most accessible source of inspiration is in your own backyard—you just need to be observant to see it. Pay attention to local restaurant menus, décor, and signage. Window shop in your local downtown corridor. Follow the lines, patterns, and composition all around you. If you live in a rural area, spend time in nature; leisurely walks through wooded areas provide relaxation as well as inspiration. As long as you are willing to look closely at your surroundings, you should never lack sources of creativity.
If you’re feeling stuck on a particular design project, we’re here to help. Tell us what you’re working on, and we’ll let you know how we can add a whole new dimension of creativity to it.
