Case Study: Unfreezing Amazon Sales
We just finished up an exiting project for a client who was referred to us when they were having some major issues with their website. The client had recently done a WordPress update themselves, only to find out that their current website theme was not compatible with the newer version of WordPress. The site, well, it looked a little messy. But that was the least of their worries.
The Problem
The real, major problem began when Amazon blacklisted them. They didn’t even realize that getting Amazon blacklisted was possible until it happened. Cue the horror music. Because there had been several product issues due to the recent website update, customer complaints resulted in Amazon banning the company from being able to sell through the Amazon Marketplace. All of the organization’s products, outside of selling through distributors, were sold through Amazon. They had a major sales freeze problem on their hands. That’s when they gave us a call.
The Diace Solution
Upon first glance of the website, we knew something had to be done right away. Thankfully, we were immediately able to revert back to an older version of their website as a Band-Aid fix until we were able to get the new site up and running. While the older version wasn’t ideal, it was easier to navigate than the most recent version, which was already alienating customers.
“Time was of the essence,” said Diace Designs founder, Jessica Acevedo. “We knew the new site would take some time because there were many product details and specifications.”
A month and a half later, we finished the new site. The best part about this project, however, was the response that our client got from Amazon. As soon as they submitted the new site to Amazon, they were instantly given the green light to set up shop in Amazon’s Marketplace once again. Finally, the sales freeze was over.
“It was such a relief when Amazon gave us the O.K. after being blacklisted for almost two months,” said happy client. “We were very concerned about the negative impact on our sales, but Jessica and her team built a beautiful site and helped us recover quickly.”
How to Avoid This and Other Web Issues
Sometimes something that seems simple, like a routine site update, can be devastating to an organization. Because of this, we always recommend backing up your existing site before updating or changing anything. Unfortunately, the steps that you need to take in order to avoid a crisis aren’t always obvious, so doing your research ahead of time is important. We hear about cases like this, and other website pitfalls, more frequently than we’d like.
Many web design agencies offer monthly website maintenance packages. With a monthly maintenance package, our team ensures that your site is actively backed-up and fully tested before upgrading to a newer version. This allows us to revert back to the existing site if we run into any issues, so that the website is still functioning and up and running while we make changes on the backend.
Diace Designs is a Tampa-based web agency; however, we work with businesses all over the country. If you have an existing website and are interested in hearing more about our monthly maintenance packages, which we customize per each client’s specific needs, please contact us today. We are here to help you avoid website pitfalls so you can focus on what you do best, running your business!
