Adapting Your Business to the New Normal
If you’re considering making some serious changes to your business during this pandemic, then you’re not alone. Many businesses are now offering virtual and no-contact options for customers who are abiding by the CDC’s social distancing guidelines. Pivoting can be a smart move during times of rapid change. However, as a business owner, it’s critical that you evaluate your current messaging and craft a new strategy before you start adapting your business model.
Evaluate Your Business First
First things first: take advantage of any downtime you may have in your business by evaluating your current offerings and your brand messaging. Are they in alignment? Does your marketing content speak to your ideal audience? Are your website, social media, and other marketing assets all consistent with each other? If everything looks good here, then you are ready to craft a strategy to help you meet your customers’ new expectations. If your messaging is all over the place, then consider taking a step back to re-evaluate your existing strategy first. It’s possible that you have already found the right positioning for your business, but it’s getting lost due to inconsistencies in your messaging.
Make Strategic Changes
Do not assume that you need to heavily discount your services for your business to survive the pandemic. Although discounts work well (and have come to be expected in the retail industry), this strategy is not optimal for those providing professional services. Instead, find ways to add more value to your current offerings and accommodate your customers’ demands for virtual transactions and interactions.
Once you’ve settled on a strategy, be open to using templates and DIY solutions so that you can make changes as necessary. Rapid response is key here. Stick to your strategy but also be prepared to make adjustments. There’s no sense in designing the “perfect” website or social media campaign if it won’t be ready until the lockdown is over!
